Lengijave our starting point |
Starting point |
|
We begin our Safari from Lengijave village, which is 17 km north of Arusha, where we meet our Maasai guides and their donkeys. From Lengijave we begin the trek into the Rift Valley across the open plains of the savannah, with it’s acacia woodlands. We stop for a picnic lunch under the acacia trees, where we may see browsing animals, for example: Giraffe and Grant's Gazelle, Plains Zebra, White-bearded Gnu, Thomson's Gazelle and Ostrich. Our evening meal and overnight stay will be an adventure, they will also be camping at a scenic spot on the open savannah. |

The North Maasailand Safari is an experience of a life time at one of the most remote, undeveloped and unspoilt areas still left in Africa. Its is only logical that the cow is linked to the grass and the grass to the land. These two things are very sacred and therefore demand great respect.
It is below the dignity of the Maasai to pierce the ground (cultivate the land). If they did they would feel guilty.
They do not go against this tradition not even to bury their own dead, preferring to abandon the corpse to wild animals. Maasailand, with its acacia woodlands and rocky outcrops, supports many types of large animals, because of the fertile soils and two rainy seasons every year.
Your hiking boots will tread some of the youngest rocks in Africa, followed by some of the oldest, encountering the corresponding changes in vegetation and wildlife.
